sprinter kit
This is my second time purchasing this kit (well new gen) due to my second van conversion. The install is very easy (when you had it before) and the product works great. Highly recommend.
-
Works great, reasonably easy to self-install
If you are comfortable with basic mechanical and electrical set up it's a self-install. Once set up it works flawlessly. It took several cycles on/off to get the fuel to the heater and it finally working and we had to size up the wire to prevent voltage drop in order for it to work. The documentation was mid at best and had to do several searches on the web and through youtube to diagnose and finally figure out the voltage drop issue. Otherwise love it. One fuel source, reliable and easy to operate, hard to beat.

Espar diesel heater
Haven't used it yet, had installed by thermaking in springfield, mo whom I highly recommend! Says he had to replace much fewer espar heaters compared to competitors. Thank you for excellent customer support!

good kit
Swapped old D2 for the new D2L. Only cabling was a challenge to replace under the panels. Very quiet model

Instructions
Very poor instructions

Never cold
So far so good! Easy to use heater with a simple thermostat on the wall of our sprinter van. We installed in the back of the van instead of under the seat and warmth under our feet.

Works for me
After a short break-in period for both the unit and the user, we seem to be on track for a great relationship. I am traveling in the western USA and Canada during the winter and have enjoyed being warm most of the time. Diesel is an interesting fuel source and I am still figuring out the lower temperature limits of its usefulness. I typically find myself in lodging when I know that the temperatures are headed into single digits and below. What do additives to diesel do to lower the operating temperature of the unit? I’m still working on that one. When I purchase diesel in Canada and it is below 10 degrees F I assume that the fuel has been treated but regulations don’t make it mandatory to inform the consumer of the addition of additives. I still add anti-gel when I fuel up. How does this affect the operating temperature of the heater? I can’t find an internet source with this information. I saw -27 F the other night. I didn’t even bother attempting to start the van. I’m not sure it would start, not to mention the heater. Early in my experience with my heater I started having shut down issues with fuel source error messages in the low 20’sF. As time has past the heater has been running well in the teens F. Again, I put anti-gel in at every fill but don’t know if the fuel has other treatments at the pump. In conclusion I have found the heater keeping me warm in my Sprinter both during the day and night when camping in the teens and above this fall and winter. Also, when the installation directions call for an adequate power source, they mean it. I had been using a 1000W portable battery pack to power my refrigerator, lights etc. This was not sufficient to run this heater. I bet I put in 10 hours troubleshooting my installation. Until I wired it up to a “real” battery it would not fire up. Good luck and don’t forget to run it regularly off season. I also don’t run it when I am going down the road not wanting to have the unit “inhale” particulate matter that could clog up the combustion chamber.
