Internal Espar diesel heater parts
There are many parts inside your air heater, and most of them are better left to the professionals. We’ll be taking a look at gaskets, the glow plug and screen, burner, and blower. You can clean or replace these these Airtronic heater parts by yourself at home, with nothing more than some basic tools.
The most common issue with Espar Airtronic heaters heaters is internal carbon buildup. Carbon deposits will form over time in the combustion chamber and reduce heating performance. Regular maintenance is the best way to prevent carbon from building up.

There are many parts inside your air heater, and most of them are better left to the professionals. We’ll be taking a look at gaskets, the glow plug and screen, burner, and blower. You can clean or replace these parts by yourself at home, with nothing more than some basic tools.

1. Espar Service Kit
Our service kit contains the most commonly replaced Espar D2 heater parts: two gaskets for the burner and heat exchanger, a glow plug screen, and a fuel filter.
If your heater starts smoking, heating less efficiently, or fails to start, the best thing to do is to take the heater apart and clean it out. You may need to replace the glow plug, but if it isn’t bent or deformed, it’s enough to just swap out the protective screen, included in the kit.
Finally, you will want to replace the gaskets after every time you take the heater apart. Gaskets tend to be easily torn by debris, and even the slightest compromise in the seal can greatly affect performance.
2. What is a Glow Plug?
A glow plug is a heating element that heats incoming fuel and air to encourage efficient fuel combustion in a diesel engine. Since diesel heaters are more like a blow torch than an internal combustion engine, that initial ignition is crucial.
If you see smoke, the heating output is suboptimal, or it takes longer to start, it might be a problem with carbon buildup. This occurs naturally, and it’s enough to just clean it out.
When cleaning out carbon buildup, it’s considered good practice to also inspect the glow plug, and replace it if necessary.
3. Replacing the Burner
When the heater isn’t working properly, it’s usually enough to thoroughly clean the burner from carbon deposits. Sometimes, by accident or from lack of maintenance, the burner can get irreversibly damaged.
The burner is a crucial part, as it warms up the heat exchanger that heats up the air passing, so it needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
Replacing a burner on your own can be tricky, we highly suggest you leave this to the professionals. However, if you decide to do it by yourself, it can easily save you a few hundred dollars.
4. When should I replace the Fan?
The fan is responsible for pushing the warm air into your cabin. If it is damaged, it can severely affect the performance of your Espar diesel heater, and you’ll notice that it takes longer to reach your desired temperature.
Replacing the fan can be easily done at home as with many other Espar heater parts. Make sure that you're servicing your heater on a well-lit, clean surface.
Keep in mind that when taking apart the heater, you must replace the old gaskets with new ones. Otherwise, you risk compromising the airtight seal, leading to less efficient combustion.
